The inspiration for this ongoing series is the Tall Timbers Natural Area in Snyder County, Pennsylvania where I enjoy hiking. This National Natural Landmark is composed of 250 acres of old-growth hemlock, white pine, pitch pine and hardwoods within a larger 500-acre natural area. One felled tree has been recorded to have 347 growth rings.
I have made these very large, very small, and everything in between and I never seem to tire of the theme and variations. Tall Timbers is a good choice for a narrow space or as a grouping of several for larger spaces.
